Chikkamagaluru: Residents from this village were in desperate need of a proper road. Their pleas to MLAs and MPs had fallen on deaf ears for years till a man came out in their support. The man was none other than late DySP Kallappa Handibag.
Kesavalalu-Kudige Rama temple village in Moodigere taluk had ro road connection. The dailts living in the area had to walk almost 8kms from Daradahalli. But from Kesavalalu they could reach the village in just 1km. Residents fought for years to get a proper road. But neither elected representatives nor officials paid attention to their demands. When there was a fight in regard to road, the then DySP Kallappa Handibag rushed to the spot, discussed with the local residents for hours and the much-awaited road was laid.
Now that the man who brought them solace is not alive, the local GP members and local residents decided to keep the road as a tribute to a people-friendly officer who once rushed to their help.
DySP Handibag had ended life following allegations of extortion though he was found innocent.
The panchayath has approved the bill to name the road after Handibag. The only work pending is to install a board.
