Marriages are typically canceled for a variety of reasons, such as the bride or groom going away with their former partner or demanding a large dowry, among others. However, in Somwarpet, Karnataka, the groom caused a stir and removed his ring, declaring that he was not interested in marrying the bride because her family did not provide sweets for the groom’s family.
According to accounts, on May 5, a young woman from Hanagallu village and a guy from Tumakuru, also known as Tumkur city, were set to get married. The bride’s family was required to provide a dowry by the groom’s side prior to the wedding day. Additionally, the family said that the groom’s relatives had made demands for land in Bengaluru and gold.
The soon-to-be couple met one other a few days prior to D-day, and the family arranged for their marriage. However, a minor uproar broke out on the wedding day, and it was discovered that the groom’s family had not been given dessert at the feast. Following the altercation, the families went to the police station, where the groom immediately announced his intention to not get married by taking off his wedding band. The bride canceled the wedding, furious about the whole thing.
