Udupi: An elderly man died after he was hit by Udupi Zilla Panchayat president’s vehicle at Kaup here on August 23.

Chandu Mestri (70) is the deceased.

Dinakar Babu, Udupi Zilla Panchayat President was travelling in his Innova car to Uchila to participate in the inaugural programme of kho-kho match in the school.

The car hit the elderly man when they reached Kaup Town Municipal Office while he was trying to cross the road.

After the accident, Dinakar Babu rushed the victim to a private hospital in Udupi in his car. But doctors declared the victim brought dead.

Kaup Police have registered a case. The dead body has been shifted to Government Hospital, Ajjarkad, Udupi.
