Udupi: The Joint Registrar of the Co-Operative Court, Mysuru, has ordered the suspension of Chairman of South Kanara and Udupi District Co-operative Fish Marketing Federation Ltd Yashpal Suvarna from his post with immediate effect. Suvarna has been charge of misappropriation of funds.
Nine directors of the federations have also been suspended.
It may be recalled that a member of the Federation Anand Salian had filed a case against Suvarna and his associates about two years ago, accusing them of misusing funds. In November 2015, the court had passed an order in favour of Salian however, Suvarna got a stay order on it. The stay was lifted in December 2015, and an order suspending Suvarna and nine others was issued on Wednesday January 6, as per Section 29 C of the Karnataka Co-operative Societies Act, 1959.
It is learnt that Udupi District Deputy Registrar Praveen Nayak has replaced Suvarna. It is to be noted that Suvarna is also the BJP State Secretary elected member of Udupi City Municipal Council.
