Udupi: Mohammed shamil has been arrested by a special team of police in connection with blackmailing his relatives here on September 5.

He was also produced in the court on the same day and has been sent to judicial custody till September 18.

Another accused cop named Sudeer who is involved in this case is still absconding.

Police have formed a team to search absconding cop.

Udupi circle inspector said that “Shamil was arrested at Udupi by a special team of men with regards to blackmailing a man for having nude pictures of his daughter and extorting Rs 25 lac from him”.  He also said that absconding accused cop Sudeer will also be arrested soon.

Two men along with a cop had blackmailed a man with false claims of possessing obscene photos of his daughter recently. Sudeer and girl’s cousin Mohammed Shamil from Udupi allegedly threatened her father by claiming to possess obscene photos of his daughter and release it to the media. Rs 25 lac was also demanded from him with false claims of possessing these obscene photos.
