Udupi :Members of Centre of Indian Trade Union (CITU), and Udupi Taluk Beedi Labour Union jointly staged protest demanding a hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) in front of the Bharat Beedi depot on Thursday July 17.

Mahabala Voderhobli, president of the federation, said that as per the agreement between beedi company owners and beedi workers, the owners had promised to give a higher DA of Rs. 21.15 per 1,000 beedis tied, from April 1, 2014.

Still, after three months there was no sign of revised DA.

They demanded that DA to be increased immediately. If the owners fail to do so the federation would protest with more agitation.
