Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat CEO Dr. Anandh K has written circulars to all taluk executive officers (EOs) in the district to organize special task teams to maintain cleanliness at the village level in response to multiple public concerns regarding the uncleanliness of rural regions.

To establish task teams in villages, the CEO has sent circulars to the executive officers of Bantwal, Belthangady, Mangaluru, Ullal, Puttur, Sullia, Kadaba, Mulky, and Moodbidri.

According to the circular, these task groups will be in charge of monitoring village cleanliness through the methodical disposal of rubbish and will penalize rule breakers.

“In villages, we have observed trash piles beside stormwater drains, roadsides, and other public areas. Waste has been irresponsibly thrown in public areas by people. In addition, we have observed the burning of rubbish in public areas. All of these demonstrate the gram panchayats’ disregard for cleanliness,” the CEO said.

He gave orders to all taluk executive officials to see to it that each gram panchayat forms specific task groups dedicated to sanitation and hygiene. The CEO instructed these task groups to penalize those who handle rubbish in an unscientific manner in order to maintain cleanliness in their individual communities.

In addition, task forces have been instructed to provide the zilla panchayat with action-taken reports that include photographs. In addition, the CEO threatened to take action against the panchayat development officials should task forces fail to be established in their individual villages.
