Mangalore : Dalit leaders participating in the SC/ST Grievance Redressal meeting held at the SP office on July 7, Sunday took strong exception to the failure of the police department to file a charge sheet in the Vittal Malekudiya and Linganna Malekudiya  case even a year after the incident.

Raising the issue, Dalit leader Shekhar of Belthangady said  the two who were arrested on charges of Naxal links were released in June 2012, almost four months after their arrest. But the police department has failed to file a charge sheet, he said and urged the department to file a ‘B’ report and close the case or else file the charge sheet .

SP Abhishek Goyal said the charge sheet  has been sent to the government and added once the same is approved, it will be  filed  before the court.

The failure to effectively utilize the Rs 5 crore special package for Naxal affected areas also came up for discussion. The SP said 30 per cent of the works are complete. He also informed that 21 youth of the affected areas have been selected for Home Guards training and added they will be posted for traffic regulation in Belthangady, Puttur and Bantwal once the government approves their appointment.
