Mangalore:Famous Journalist and writer from Mumbai, Kalpana Sharma has told that changing the mindset of the men is the key to women empowerment.

She was addressing the crowd after inaugurating the two day National Seminar on “Education and women empowerment”  at St. Ann’s college today.

She said” The words  “Women empowerment”  keep buzzing around us. We are in the confusion in what way the women can be empowered. I feel only educating the women fraternity just doesn’t serve the purpose but we have to change the mindset of the men first.”

Another journalist and writer writer Mrs. Ammu Joseph rendered the Key-Note Address.

She said ”I am not convinced that  education necessarily and automatically leads to empowerment. In the society we have heard of many instances where educated people have been responsible for the violations against women”

She ended her speech saying “I hope you all will help transform our educational system from one that encourages conformity to one that promotes crucial thinking and, thereby, real empowerment.”

The program was presided over by the Principal of the college Dr. Sr. Leoneela Menezes who in her address congratulated Dr. Shashikala and her colleagues for organizing the seminar in the college.

The seminar has been jointly organized by St. Ann’s college and Dept. of Women and Child Empowerment, Govt. of Karnataka.
