Newskarnataka – Karkala
Karkala : Residents of Banglegudde in Karkala town picketed the TMC office on Monday May 5 and pulled up the TMC Chief Officer for ‘misleading’ the District Minister Vinaykumar Sorake at a recent meeting by stating that there was no water problem in Karkala town.

The protestors pointed out that several areas in the town including Banglegudde, Jarigudda, Sadbhavana Nagar, Gundya Pattonjikatte, Kabettu, Kalikambanagar and Hiriangady were facing acute shortage of drinking water and were receiving water once or twice a week. They alleged that despite this being the fact, the TMC Chief Officer Mabel D’Souza while replying to the minister had given a readymade reply that the town did not face water scarcity and won the appreciation of the minister. Even the silence maintained by the TMC President and other councillors at the meeting has irked the residents.
Most of the protestors were women and just as things were going out of control, councillor Mohammad Sharief stood in support of the protestors and blamed TMC Chief Officer for the problem. This led to a heated exchange of words between the councillor and the TMC Chief officer. Later even Mohammad Sharief joined the protestors.
The protest was finally withdrawn after the Chief Officer assured to supply ten tanker loads of water every day to Banglegudde ward.
