Kasargod : Drinking water problem has cropped up in Kasargod town and surrounding areas following the collapse of the temporary embankment constructed at Bavikkere by the Water Authority. The embankment collapsed due to heavy rains in the past few days and the increased influx of water. Most part of the 120 meter long embankment has been washed away.


It is learnt, the embankment was constructed less than two months ago at a cost of Rs 10 lakhs.Sand bags were used to raise the embankment, Now, with its collapse, Kasargod town and surrounding areas may face water problem in the coming days.
Meanwhile, it is learnt the salt content in the water too has reduced to a considerable extent due to the pre-monsoon showers.
A few days ago, the saline content in the water was 1500 milligram per litre, giving rise to water problem as the available water was unfit for consumption.
