Mangalore : As part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Project, the district administration in association with the Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project organised a voter awareness programme at the Panambur beach on April 28, Sunday to ensure maximum voter participation during the upcoming Assembly elections.
Amid games for children and entertainment for crowd, there were messages encouraging people to evince interest in voting and increase voting percentage.
Deputy Commissioner Harsh Gupta, on this occasion also launched an exclusive themed kite on voter awareness. In his address, the DC said the district administration aims to increase the voting percentage from the present 72 to 85 per cent. He said 60,000 voters have received voter identification cards, while over 15 lakh people have been registered in the revised voters’ list.
People who had gathered in the beach also took an oath that they will actively participate in the voting process.
Dr KN Vijayaprakash, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer, Dr Harish Kumar, MCC Commissioner, Yatish Baikampady, Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project and others were present.
