Virajpete : The historic clock tower  of Virajpete town is  celebrating its grand centenary. The clock tower located in the heart of the town has been continuously keeping the public  informed about time, since the past century.  It is also a tradition since long that any procession, festival or protest march passes through this  clock tower in the town.

History :  This Clock Tower is one of the few monuments which one can see in the town of Virajpete. History says that the Tower was constructed in 1911 in commemoration of the  crowning ceremony of King George, by  Subedar Rao Bahaddur Mukkadira Ayyappa.

The two-storied tower is quite distinct from other such towers. Though the Clock Tower ought to have celebrated its centenary two years ago, it was not possible as then the clock had come to a standstill following a repair. Presently, the task of  fitting a new clock and renovation of the tower at a cost of Rs 4 lakh is complete, thereby paving way for a grand centenary.
