Moodbidri : Thieves who targeted  the Badaga Basadi  in the town on February 4, Tuesday night   have broke open the offering box and decamped with the cash inside it.

It  is learnt, the thieves gained entry into the Basadi  by  climbing the stone roofing of the  Basadi  through the compound wall and then opening the latch of the main door. They then went inside the Basadi through a ladder and broke open the two steel offering boxes.

Sources said the offering box had little money as it was emptied just a few days ago. The only point of satisfaction is that the thieves have left untouched other valuable idols in the Basadi.  The Basadi in-charge Dr SP Vidyakumar told the media men that the thieves had even drawn the huge curtain  used during Pooja time, so that the sound of the breaking of the offering box was not heard outside.

He also said a similar theft had taken place at the Basadi about ten years ago.

Senior police officials including Inspector Anantha Padmanabha, SI Ramesh Kumar and finger print experts visited the Basadi. Patna Shetty Sudhesh Kumar, Trustee, Dinesh Anadka and BJP leader Jagadish Adhikari also visited the Basadi.
