Udupi : Senior Congress leader Vinaykumar Sorake who has been chosen Congress candidate from Kaup constituency, filed his nomination on April 17, Wednesday at the taluk office here.
Speaking to the waiting media men, Sorake said he was confident of a win from the constituency. He was also critical of former minister Vasanth Salian who was a ticket aspirant from the Congress and has now joined the JD(S). Sorake said the party has given Salian a chance to contest as many as seven times and he has won five times. Salian’s joining the JD(S) was unexpected, Sorake said.
He further said that the party would henceforth concentrate on campaigning for the elections. Defending the decision of the party to field him from Kaup, Sorake said he belonged to Udupi and was a voter from Udupi, despite him winning from Puttur almost 20 years ago.
