Vittal: The villagers of Anantady, near here staged protest in front of Rajeev Gandhi Seva Kendra, Neralakatte, here on Monday September 2, opposing the relocation of gram panchayat office of Anantady in Babanakatte, which is serving the villages of Nettlamudnoor and Anantady villages to Rajeev Gandhi Seva Kendra, Neralakatte, in Netlamudnoor village, near here.
Hundreds of villagers of both Anantady and Netlamudnoor villages gathered at the location creating chaos, while Bantwal circle inspector Anil S Kulkarni, Vittal sub-inspector Madhav Koodlu led policemen restrained the villagers from further chaos.
Bantwal taluk panchayat CEO Vishwanat Poojary, deputy Tahsildar Parameshwar Moily, Vittal revenue inspector Govind Nayak, Netlamudnoor village accountant Raju Lamani, PDO K Jayaram tried to convince the protesters and urged them to co-operate as the order of Deputy Commissioner cannot be violated.
Meanwhile, the protest was called off, when Vishwanat Poojary and Parameshwar Moily accepted the memorandum from the agitating villagers.
The villagers of both Anantady and Netlamudnoor villages gathered separately at the venue at 8.30am on Monday and dispersed only at 2.30pm.
The gram panchayat office that is located in Rajeev Gandhi Seva Kendra, Neralakatte was opened only at 3.00pm.
