Vehicle jatha against Niddodi thermal power project

Moodbidri :  Various organizations under the aegis of the Mathrubhumi Samrakshana Samithi of Niddodi organised a vehicle jatha from Kinnigoli to Moodbidri  on October 22, Tuesday opposing the proposed Niddodi thermal power project. The Kinnigoli Catholic Saba, ICYM Kinnigoli unit and Tulunadu Rakshana Vedike also joined hands in organizing the jatha.

Participants of the jatha who converged at the Swaraj Maidan at Moodbidri later took out a padayatra  upto the Tahsildar’s office.

A protest meet was held outside the office. Addressing the protestors, Fr William Martis, Parish Priest of Kemmannu Church said  Niddodi project which would  spell  doom should not be set up. He urged the government to shelve the project. He also pointed out the problems faced by people due to the UPCL project at Padubidri and questioned why the government wants to go in for another destructive project.

Felix Cardoza,  advocate and former president of the ZP Standing Committee, stressed the need to intensify agitation against the project.

Later, a memorandum was submitted to  the Chief Minister through the Tahsildar’s office.
Mathrubhumi Samrakshana Samithi President Alphonse D’Souza, Convenor Kiran Manjanabailu, Joachim Correa, Kallamundkur  GP Chief, Bhuvanabhirama Udupa, Deviprasad Punaroor, Sucharitha Shetty, Jagadish Adhikari, KR Pandit and others were present.
