Bangalore: With Karnataka Rajyotsava celebration round the corner, lobbying has intensified for the coveted Rajyotsava Awards. The Government, on its part has formed a committee under the chairmanship of CM Siddaramaiah to select the awardees. The committee includes veteran litterateurs, intellectuals and theater artistes. It has been gathered that CM Siddaramaiah has instructed officials and authorities not to heed to any lobbying for the awards.
The Committee comprises of Jnanpeeth awardee Dr U. R. Ananthamurthy, veteran intellectual Dr. Marulasiddappa, Gulbarga-based scriptwriter K B Siddayya, Kannada and Culture Department former secretary Ka Tha Chikkanna, theater artiste D K Chowta, border region litterateur Ramakrishna Marate, veteran environmentalist and film director Suresh Heblikar and retired vice-chancellor Dr Bisalayya.
The deadline to accept nominations is over and scrutiny of the same has begun. The final list will be prepared after the meeting of advisory committee chaired by CM Siddaramaiah shortly.
