Mangalore : The Yettinahole project proposed to be implemented by the state government has come in for severe criticism from Vanya Charana Balaga, a group of adventurous trekkers from Mangalore.
Dinesh Holla, Convenor of the Balaga who spoke to the media on August 2, Friday said the project was unscientific and urged the government to immediately drop the same.The very existence of River Netravathi would be endangered by the project, he said and pointed out that the river was the lifeline of the people of Dakshina Kannada district.
He also urged the people to put up a united fight against the proposed project. Holla further informed that his Balaga would launch an awareness drive and would hold informative programmes on the adverse consequences of the project in various educational institutions and organizations. He further feared that the project would do irreparable damage to the Western Ghats which is rich in bio-diversity.
Vanya Charana Balaga President Sudhir Kumar, Vice President Ramesh Kamath were also present at the press meet.
