Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada District In-charge Minister and State Minister for Urban Development and Housing U T Khader has opposed the move of the union government of merging Vijaya Bank with the Bank of Baroda and opined that it would result in a negative impact on the Indian economy.

Khader told reporters on Thursday, January 3 that the union government was least bothered about India’s economy. “The decision of merging Dena Bank and Vijaya Bank with the Bank of Baroda is a hasty one and union government must immediately revoke the same. Vijaya Bank is earning profits. What is the necessity of merging Vijaya Bank with Bank of Baroda which is already running under losses?”, he questioned.

Khader also stated that the union government was destroying the legacy of the Dakshina Kannada district by merging Vijaya Bank with Bank of Baroda. The MPs of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are not concerned about this issue and have failed to convince the union government”, he alleged.

Sabarimala issue: Kerala government compelled to follow Apex Court’s order
Responding to a query on Sabarimala temple issue, Khader said, “ The Kerala government is compelled to follow the Supreme Court order and there is no option for them. But through an ordinance, the union government can get a stay on the Supreme Court’s order.”
