Chikkaballapura: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation for the controversial Yettinahole Project aimed at supplying water to parched districts,  amid  widespread protests on March 3, Monday.  Dakshina Kannada district is observing a total bundh against the implementation of the project.

Meanwhile, in Chikkaballapura,  members  of  Shashwatha Neeravari Horata Samithi staged a protest wearing black badges demanding implementation of Paramashivaiah Report. Over 500 protestors including former minister Bachegowda were detained by the police.

Political gimmick : On the other hand, JD(S) supremo and former prime minister HD Deve Gowda described  the foundation laying of Yettinahole project as  a mere political gimmick. This is done as elections are nearing and there is no genuine concern for the masses, he said.

He said it was not proper to lay foundation in a haste and stressed the need for a scientific survey. Let the government  conduct a meeting to discuss the issue, he said.
