Under trial jumps into well outside Udupi court

Udupi: An under trial who is an accused in various robbery cases, allegedly attempted  suicide by jumping into the well in front of the court on January 27, Monday.

The  under trial has been identified  as Chandrashekhar who hails from Kavoor and is lodged in Hiriadka prison. He was arrested by Kundapur police about a month ago in connection with bike theft cases reported in Udupi, Kundapur and Bhatkal areas.
He was being produced before Kundapur court by the police along with seven other accused when he tried to commit suicide. However, he escaped with minor injuries as the well had only knee-deep water.

Sources said that the accused tried to escape  from police, when the latter  along with other accused went to a canteen for having a meal at around 2.15 pm on Monday.
Chandrashekhar was admitted to a  hospital in Kundapur and was later  shifted to district government hospital in Ajjarakad, Udupi. His condition is stable.

A case is registered at Kundapur police station.
