Moodbidri : The Tahsildar of Moodbidri conducted a spot inspection on August 17, Saturday following complaints that a person was operating an unauthorized stone quarry in his land at Kallakumeru in Niddodi village and had also encroached lands of others.
The complainant, Sadashiva Shetty, a professional Yakshagana artiste of Kateel Mela had alleged that Brijith Aranha of Kallakumeru owned 1.70 acre land at Kallakumeru jointly with his wife. The complainant also alleged that the person was running a red stone quarry unauthorisedly and had encroached his (Sadashiva Shetty) land to have a road.
A petition was filed in the Moodbidri Civil Court in this regard on July 16,2012 and the court had also stayed Brijith Aranha from going ahead with the road works on a private land. But, Aranha had violated the court order and had laid the road.
Sadashiva Shetty said he had lodged a police complaint on June 7, 2013 consequent upon which the police visited the spot and warned Aranha. Shetty also alleged that Aranha tried to attack his son who had been to the spot on August 15 to enquire about the encroachment.
The Moodbidri Tahsildar Shivakumar along with Moodbidri inspector Ramesh Kumar arrived on Saturday and inspected the documents.
Later the Tahsildar said the Department of Mines has not granted permit to Aranha to operate a quarry and that he had encroached lands of others. He said there would be an enquiry and action on the basis of the report.
During the Tahsildar’s visit Brijith Aranha’s wife and sister took the officer to task and said the land belonged to them and that there was a road there since long and that they would not vacate the road. To this the Tahsildar asked them to produce documents pertaining to the land where the road was laid.
The village accountants of Niddodi and Kallamundkur were also present.
