Bangalore: People who are in business of standing guarantee for strangers were arrested by Ulsoorgate police.
S D Rathnamma (33) , a resident of Pavagada, and L Hemantha from Gandhinagar in Yelahanka have been arrested in this case. As per tip-off given by Wilson Garden sub-inspector Murthy, The Police came into action.
The duo have been produced in the court of the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM). A police officer claimed that ,” they are part of the ongoing racket , there many to be trapped”. So far police have arrested 15 people for allegedly helping criminals to secure bail.
Though surety is supposed to be offered by people known to the accused and court releases an accused on bail (against surety in the form of money or property). A senior police officer alleged that , some advocates arrange people to stand aS surety for criminals or accused in return for a fee.
A single piece of land was used to give surety in several unrelated cases. In a few cases, the land documents were used, which actually belongs to some complete stranger. “This way, they have also cheated courts,” a senior officer said. We have decided to take action, he added.
Ironically, now the arrested persons are not getting bail even after approaching the high court .
