Two ladies caught smuggling gold in undergarments at airport

Mangaluru: On a tip off given by the Immigration Authorities of Mangalore International Airport, the officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport have busted another modus operandi of gold smuggling and seized gold weighing 1816.550 grams, in two separate cases valued at Rs.48,32,023.

In the first case, the officers seized gold in the form of seven  ten tola gold bars,  with a total weight of 816.550 grams and valued at Rs.21,72,023 concealed in the innerwear of a lady passenger, named Khairun Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, aged about 48 Years, wife of Ali Mohammed, residing at Masjid Chowk Main Road, Junagadh, who arrived at Mangalore International Airport on November 19 by Air India Express flight No.IX814 from Dubai.

In a similar modus operandi on the same day, the officers seized a single one Kilo Gold Bar, weighing  valued at Rs.26,60,000/- concealed in the innerwear of another lady passenger, named Mariyomma Ottapokkil, aged about 48 Years, resident of Methal Chalil, Kozhikode, Kerala, who arrived at Mangalore International Airport on November 19 by Jet Airways flight No.9W531 from Dubai.

Both the lady passengers were later arrested and produced before the Judicial Magistrate. Further investigation in both the cases is under progress.
