Mangalore: A leopard that got trapped near Mahalingeshwara Temple at Kudi village, Kondadi in Hiriadka was badly wounded and  died on Thursday January 2.

It is learnt that the animal may have strayed into the area during the night and caught in a trap. The trap that was laid for another animal wounded the leopard badly.Nearby villagers who noticed this soon informed the forest officials.

After the arrival of the officials they examined the animal and tranquilized it to calm the pain but in vain. It was then taken to veterinary clinic in Hiriadka.

Moreover, it is known that as there was no specialist available in Udupi,  veterinarians had to be called from Pilikula Nisargadhama in Mangalore. However, by the time they arrived, the animal had succumbed.
