Bantwal : Bantwal unit of the BJP which has strongly condemned the hike in KSRTC bus fares by Rs 4 on the pretext of payment of toll at the Brahmarakootlu Toll Plaza on NH 75, has warned of blocking all Government buses at BC road if the hike in fares was not withdrawn.
A delegation of the BJP led by G Ananda, local unit Chief, met the KSRTC Divisional Controller and submitted a memorandum to him alleging that the the KSRTC was resorting to daylight robbery by charging an additional Rs 4 from each passenger just because a toll of Rs 90 was collected per day at the toll gate. The memorandum also pointed out that the hike in fare was a burden to daily commuters going towards Belthangady, Dharmasthala, Bantwal, Sullia and Puttur. The BJP has warned that if the KSRTC did not stop collecting higher fares from passengers by January 5, then all government buses would be blocked on the NH on January 6.
The issue of higher fares collected by the KSRTC also came up for discussion at the Bantwal Taluk Panchayat meeting, The meeting also resolved to urge the KSRTC to withdraw the hike.
