Bantwal : On Friday May 30, the National Highway 75 at B.C.Road was once again hit by a traffic snarl. This time the problem persisted right from morning till evening. The several weddings and other functions scheduled during the day also added to the traffic woes with the number of vehicles on the road at its highest.

The traffic snarl on Friday has revealed that the opening of the fly-over for two-way traffic since Monday has not been able to put an end to the traffic woes. On Friday, Home Guards personnel and the police men had a tough time in regulating traffic.
Has the formula failed?
Following the recent visit of the Deputy Commissioner and the District Superintendent of Police, and as per their advice, the divider on one portion of the fly over was vacated to facilitate two-way traffic with an intention of ending the traffic woes. However, Friday’s traffic snarl wherein vehicles were seen lined up for kilometres together has given rise to suspicion as to whether the formula failed to work out.
It is learnt, the vehicles moving on the highway are obstructed whenever rural private buses which proceed on the service road enter the bus stand. Moreover various government and private buses operating on the Mangalore-Puttur, Dharmasthala route drop as well as pick up passengers right on the road, further adding to the problem.
All police officials descend on BC Road: The traffic problem on Friday was so grave that several top officials including DYSP Rashmi Paraddy, Circle Inspector Belliappa, SI Nandakumar and many police personnel and Home Guards toiled throughout the day amid the scorching heat to regulate the traffic.
The problem has also given rise to the need for a permanent traffic police station in Bantwal. There is now a growing feeling among the locals that the DC and SP have to once again review the situation.
