Belthangady: Several valuable Panchaloha idols have been stolen from the Chaturvinshati Basadi in Bangadi and the Basadi of Padmaprabha Theerthankara on June 17, Monday night. The theft came to light on Tuesday morning when the priests arrived for the morning pooja. The thefts took place within two days of a major theft in the Neriya Basadi wherein as many as 17 idols apart from gold chains were stolen.

Thieves who entered the Chaturvinshati Basadi of Bangadi by breaking the front door have stolen the Panchaloha idols of Sri Adinatha Swamy, Vrishabhanatha Swamy,  Dharmanatha Swamy, and Mahaveera Swamy.

An 18 inch idol of Padmaprabha Theerthankara was stolen from the Padmaprabha Theerthankara Basadi. Thieves also  tried to break upon the Shanthinatha Swamy Basadi but in vain. They then took away cash from the donation box.

DySP Sadananda Varnekar, Circle Inspector Sudhaker Nayak and other police officials have visited the spot. A canine squad and finger print experts are also at the spot. Investigations are underway.
