Belthangady:The Utsava Murthy  of the Chandkur Shree Durgaparameshwari Temple at Laila was stolen on October 14, Monday night. The thieves who entered the temple precincts by breaking open the main door of the sanctum sanctorum, decamped with the idol which was 8 inch tall and weighed 1.25 kg.

The theft came to light on October 15 morning when the temple priest arrived  for the pooja. Luckily, all other valuables were kept in a safe place and remained intact. The temple had special pooja on account of Navaratri and it is believed that the thieves targeted the temple hoping to lay hands on enough booty.
