Udupi:  A case of attempt to  rob cash from an ATM kiosk by breaking open the ATM machine and damaging the CC Camera, has been reported  from the Corporation Bank ATM at  Pandeshwar  in Kundapur on December 9, Monday night. This particular ATM was shifted a few months ago from Sastan to Pandeshwar. Sources revealed that no cash has been stolen.

On Tuesday morning  a customer of the Bank, Arun Louis, came to withdraw money at around 8 am,. But,  on finding the shutter of the ATM half closed he enquired a neighbouring shopkeeper about the ATM. The shopkeeper assumed that the ATM machine was out of order. A curious Arun Louis then lifted the shutter  and was shocked to see the damaged machine.

Arun Louis then  alerted the locals and the Kota police who arrived with a canine squad and finger print experts.

It is learnt, the thieves apart from breaking the ATM machine and  CCTV cameras had also damaged the tube lights and other articles in the ATM Kiosk.

Initial reports revealed that the thieves might have escaped towards the highway as an iron rod was recovered from a bush near the road on the left side of the ATM, after the sniffer dog took the police to the spot.

It is learnt, the ATM had no  security guard deployed and moreover there was also no light   outside the ATM. As per the records it is known that the CCTV was damaged at 2.02 am and the ATM machine was damaged at 2.09 am.

Even the Corporation Bank officials  arrived at the ATM centre. Investigations are underway.
