Theft cases solved; 6 held with stolen items worth Rs 20 lakh

Bantwal: In a praiseworthy achievement, Vittal police successfully busted the numerous cases of theft in the taluk and arrested six persons.
Addressing a press meet, Dakshina Kannada district superintendent of police (SP), Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, said that six people were arrested relating to the theft of vehicles, areca nut and cows. Stolen items worth about Rs 20 lac have also been recovered.

Barik (22) from Kudtamugeru in Kolnadu village in the taluk, Basheer (25) and Saifuddin (19), residents of Radhukatte, Kodungayi in Vitlapadnur village, Ashraf (19) from Kadambu Quarters, Jabir (26), resident of Balepuni village, and Zubair K (23), a native of Kudtamugeru-Karai are the arrested. The police confiscated two cars, a pick-up truck, an auto rickshaw, and 1,500 kg areca nut, estimated to be worth Rs 20 lakh, from the accused.

Revealing a long list of thefts, Borase informed that the accused were involved in a incident where they stole areca nut from a shop at Kudtamugeru downtown, and also from the house of Srinivas Acharya after poisoning his pet dog. They were involved in thefts of areca nut at compound of Suribail mosque, house of Kodange Ermenile Ratnakar Shetty, and from a shop near Kambalabettu Dargah. They had even stolen cows from the house of Alakemajalu Belantija.

Borase also said that one of the accused, Basheer is involved in 19 cases of vehicle thefts all over the district and also in Kasargod and Manjehwar. He was jailed for 18 months in a abduction and rape case of a minor girl and faces many others charges too.

Praising the achievement of deputy superintendent of police here, Bhaskar Rai, circle inspector, K U Belliappa, Vittal police sub-inspector, Prakash Devadiga, and other staff, Borase said that a cash reward of Rs 10,000 has been announced for the feat.

The SP also informed that a theft case at Apoorva Jewellery Shop at B C Road has been solved. Pinto Rawat from Hoogli district in West Bengal, who had had absconded with 274 grams of gold was arrested. Rs 5 lakh worth gold was recovered from him.
