Mysuru: National Institute of Engineering (NIE) is the first engineering college in the country to sign Memorandum of Understanding with Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) Yoga University.

Speaking after signing MOU Chancellor HR Nagendra of S-VYASA said, “In the present health scenario, the modern health care system has failed to address the issues of Non-communicable disease (NCD’s). Indian system of medicines Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy should be combined with modern system of medicines to solve the biggest challenge of non-communicable diseases of the world at large. Here Yoga is helping people to prevent and promotion of positive health. In the health budget, government allocated just 1 percent for the prevention of disease program, but during the recent planning commission meeting I insisted for 20 percent allocation but they have assured to provide 10 percent of the total budget in health sector”
“The MOU will help in organizing conferences, creating awareness on the Indian traditional practices among the students from technical background and in future it helps to set up Yoga centres, to introduce Yoga Instructive courses Science of emotion culture and lot more. With the MOU to start with the institute can start base courses including the ‘Train the trainer’ program. The trained yoga teachers can in turn start ‘Stop Diabetes Movement Program’ which is very much need of the hour. After China, India is the second in number of diabetic patients in the country, added Nagendra.
Awesome performance from NIE Yoga Team members: The team led by Rudresh along with Lakshmi, Pooja and Brahmanjna presented few asanas for nearly 15 minutes. Rudresh who for the past couple years representing VTU in the national yoga competition came out with splendid performance which was well appreciated by not only Nagendra but also people who had gathered for event.
