Mangalore: Dakshina Kannada District Administration has decided to initiate stern measures to ensure strict implementation of Gutka Ban in the district.
Deputy Commissioner N Prakash who addressed a meeting held in this regard on June 18, Tuesday, has informed that a Task Force has been constituted in this regard and that the Task Force comprising Tahsildars and respective taluk medical officers would be conducting regular raids on establishments that sell Gutka despite the ban.
Violation of the rule would attract a penalty of upto Rs 10 lakhs, the DC said adding even the trade licence would be cancelled. The DC said there were plans to utilize the penalty amount towards the awareness programmes on Gutka ban.
The Deputy Commissioner further directed the Task Force to utilize the services of the Police Department and also seek the help of the local administrative bodies, in achieving its endeavour.
