Talangere double murder: Quantum of punishment announcement tomorrow

Kasargod : The District Sessions Court will announce the quantum of punishment to the convicts in the  sensational Talangere double murder case  on December 7, Saturday. The District Sessions Judge made this announcement when the convicts were produced before the court on December 5, Thursday.

The police had arrested Dodda Hanuma (48) of Dandupalya in  Bangalore and his wife,  Venkatesha alias Chandra (45) of Kadugodu Dinnur Colony in Bangalore, his wife Savitri(43), Munikirshna alias Krishna (41), his wife Padma(40), Nallatimma alias Timma (41) of Mysore Periyapattana, Venkatesh alias Ramesh (43)  and Krishna alias Chandra(35) in connection with the case.

Beepathumma (59) of Talangere and her domestic help Selvi (16) of Talangere Khasilane were brutally killed by strangulating them on February 27,1998. The murders came to light only three days later that too after locals complained of foul smell. The case was handed over to the Kannur Crime Branch after the Kasargod police failed to achieve breakthrough in investigation.

The police managed to arrest the accused almost nine years after the murders. The arrests were made in Bangalore and the accused belonged to the Dandupalya gang which was involved in over 50 dacoity cases. During interrogations the accused admitted their guilt.

They had sold the robbed valuables to a jewellery house at Dharwad and the same were recovered by the police. A total of 52 witnesses were heard in the case.
