Mangaluru: The District Congress Committee staged a protest outside Congress office in the city condemning BJP Leader Subramanian Swamy’s allegations against AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi that the latter was involved in the AgustaWestland chopper bribery scam.

Addressing the gathering District in-charge Minister B Ramanath Rai said that the ruling BJP is making baseless allegations.

“The Congress is a party, which has played vital role in leading India towards Independence. A leader like Indira Gandhi, whose revolutionary schemes and programmes benefited the poor and Rahul Gandhi, who changed the face of the country are insulted by the BJP. The SAngh PArivar outfits do not have any respect for these great leaders,” he said adding that both of these leaders had laid down their life for the sake of the nation, which the BJP has conveniently forgotten.

“They have defamed the image of the Nehru family who have always worked for the betterment of the people,” said Rai lauding Sonia Gandhi sacrificial and selfless nature of having handed over mantle of power to Manmohan Singh even when she had the chance to become the Prime Minister.

Mangaluru south MLA, J.R.Lobo said that the BJP which came to power in the name of development has completely failed to fulfill the promises made.

“The BJP kept criticizing the various schemes of the Congress, but when it came to power it has continued with the same sschemes,” he said adding that the BJP and Subramanian Swamy are unnecessarily making wrong accusations against Sonia Gandhi to gain political mileage.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, Mayor, Harinath, MUDA chairman Ibrahim Kodijal, Congress leaders, PV Mohan, Denis D’silva, and others were present.
