Super-specialty block, trauma centre to come up at Wenlock

Mangaluru: U.T Khader, Minister for Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday promised to sanction funds to construct a super-specialty block and a trauma centre in the premises of Wenlock Government Hospital, Mangaluru.

He was responding to the request of Medical Superintendent H.R. Rajeshwari at the review meeting of Wenlock Hospital. The minister directed the hospital committee to draw up a plan for the proposed building.

He assured to work out the funds required for it once the plan is readied and approved. Rajeshwari said that Rs 7 crore is available in the hospital, and requested for additional funds.

Besides, the Medical Superintendent thanked the minister for upgrading the hospital. She said a semi-intensive care unit (ICU) consisting of 14 beds is almost ready along with a sophisticated mortuary and a sewage treatment plant.

Taking note of other problems, U.T Khader directed the Karnataka Health System Development and Reforms Project officials to regularly visit the hospital and carry out plumbing and other repair works.

A 24×7 medical store

The minister also said that the district Government Wenlock Hospital will get a 24×7 medical store by January 2015. The drugs will be priced 20% lesser than the market price. Besides, it will also sell generic medicine to the patients. Khader said, similar medical stores will come up in all the district hospitals in the state.
