Mangalore : The mortal remains of 17-year-old Puneeth Kumar, a I PUC student of a college in Mangalore, who jumped into the break waters at Panambur on March 23, Sunday night with his lover, have been found.
The girl survived the suicide bid, while the search for the boy who was reported missing continued. The body of the boy was found later on March 25, Tuesday.
According to the police sources, Puneeth used to threaten a girl of his class stating that he was in love with her and that if she did not accompany him on certain occasions he would commit suicide.
She reportedly accompanied him at times, for the fear that he might execute his threat. Likewise, under pressure from the boy, the girl had reached Panambur beach on the evening of March 23.
After the boy exerted pressure on her to accept his proposal to commit suicide together, the girl agreed, and both of them jumped into the break water after abandoning their footwear near the port. The girl said she was not willing to lose her life, and hence saved herself by clinging on to a rock, and coming back home, weeping.
Panambur Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ravikumar, said that investigation will be conducted under the provisions of law as applicable to minors, as the girl is a minor. Suratkal station house officer, M A Nataraj, who had registered the case, has transferred files to Panambur police station, as the incident occurred under its jurisdiction.
