On Wednesday night, over 200 students residing in the hostel of Mangalore University staged a protest in front of the Vice Chancellor’s residence, alleging poor quality food being served to them. As a symbolic gesture, they placed utensils containing stale rice in front of the VC’s residence.
The students claimed that the food quality had been unsatisfactory for some time, and the kitchen staff had been unresponsive to their complaints.
Despite being in Bengaluru, the VC engaged in a telephonic conversation with the protesting students and assured them of strict action against those responsible. However, the students insisted on the VC’s physical presence at the site. Later, Raju Mogaveera, the registrar, rushed to the scene to hold discussions with the students, but the protest persisted late into the night.
Konaje police intervened to manage the situation and maintain order at the scene.
