Ahead of the formal inauguration of the Blue Flag beach at Tannirbhavi, an entry fee has been introduced for the public. Adults will be charged Rs 20, while children below 13 will be charged Rs 10 for entry. Dakshina Kannada’s deputy director of the tourism department, Manikya, explained that these rates align with the guidelines specified for Blue Flag beaches, aimed at supporting maintenance efforts.
Although the entrance work by Mangaluru Smart City Limited is ongoing, the beach has been opened to the public due to the increasing number of visitors, necessitating cleanliness and maintenance efforts. The formal inauguration is expected to occur once the model code imposed during the Lok Sabha elections is lifted.
Furthermore, prices have been established for additional facilities, including birthday celebrations (Rs 500), photoshoots (Rs 1,000), photoshoots with drones (Rs 2,000), film shooting of Tulu films (Rs 5,000), and other languages (Rs 10,000).
The Blue Flag beach initiative aims to provide tourists and beachgoers with clean and hygienic bathing water, amenities, a safe environment, and sustainable development of the area. Padubidri and Kasarkod beaches in Karnataka have already been certified as Blue Flag beaches.
According to the Dakshina Kannada tourism department, approximately 90% of the work related to the Blue Flag Beach at Tannirbhavi has been completed, adhering to government norms.
Meanwhile, Mangaluru Smart City Limited has undertaken area development at Tannirbhavi beach on 1.7 acres of land. The project includes features such as a Mangaluru Frame, seven kiosks for retail and food stalls, a distinctive clock tower, an attractive feature wall, seating areas for around 50 individuals, a spacious parking lot, a scenic promenade, a pavilion, and a designated jetty point.
