Mangalore: The Street Vendors Association began a 24 hour protest in front of the Mangalore City Corporation office on February 3, Monday to condemn the failure of the MCC authorities to provide alternate arrangements for them.

Urging the officials to earmark a place  for the street vendors to  carry out their business, the President of the Association Sunil Kumar said, “The parliament as well justifies that the street vendors can conduct their business whereas the Supreme Court had also given a verdict stating that the local administration is responsible for the welfares of the street vendors.”

But the corporation officials seem to be unaware of this and  are not permitting the street vendors, he said and added that the corporation should either make alternate arrangements or allow the street vendors to continue as of now.

Earlier, a protest rally was also  taken out from State Bank area to the MCC office. CPI Secretary  Vasanth Achari, Street Vendors Association President Mohamed Mustafa, General Secretary Santosh Kumar, Lingappa Nanthoor and others are participating in the protest.
