Newskarnataka – Udupi

Udupi:  At the meeting of the Udupi City Municipal Council held here on February 3, Monday , several councillors poured out complaints that not much has been done to put an end to the menace of stray dogs in the city.

Responding to the complaints, Udupi CMC Commissioner Srikanth Rao said the CMC will take action to kill only mad dogs but not all stray dogs.  He said the Udupi CMC has taken up the

sterilization programme  to control the population of stray dogs  in the city with the support of a  non-governmental organisation from Hyderabad.  As part of the campaign, after  sterilising and vaccinating the dogs against rabies, the animals will be tagged in their ears. They will also be collared for easy identification, he said. The Commissioner also informed that  as per the official data, a total of  1200 dogs were successfully vaccinated during the year 2011-12.

This year, 385 dogs have been given ant-Rabies vaccination  till date  at Ambagilu, Santhekatte, Manipal and  other places, he informed.

Raising the issue of drinking water, Ramesh Kanchan, Councillor said  several areas faced water problem even before the onset of summer.

In their reply, officials said the problem was owing to rupture of pipe during road widening works.

CMC President Yuvaraj assured solution to the problem and also steps to supply water through tankers to affected areas.
