Mangalore: The national service scheme organized an Aids awareness programme as well as inaugurated the youth health counseling cell at Besant Women’s College on Monday February 3.
The programme was initiated under the aegis of the Red Ribbon Club, wherein a large number of students participated. The youth heath counseling cell has been instigated for students to share and discuss crucial health issues that will help in their wellbeing.


After inaugurating the youth heath counseling cell, the chief guest Minister for health and family welfare U T Khadar addressed the gathering.
In his presidential address U T Khadar said, “The government has been taking necessary steps to eradicate Aids from the society, but the youth also has to try and understand the facts. Gaining knowledge about Aids and the preventions measures is very important. In-turn the youth must avail the knowledge and help each other to understand the facts.”
The guests of honour for the function were District Aids control officer Dr Kishore Kumar Dr Majula KT former principal of Besant Women’s college also addressed the audience after which the president of Women’s National Education Society Kudpi Jagdish Shenoy presided over the function.
Professor Pushpalatha BK, the principal; Professor Meera Coelho, NSS officer; Nikitha Suvarna and Ankita NSS student leaders were present during the programme.
