Bantwal: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday announced that the state government will celebrate birth anniversary of Brahmashree Narayana Guru from next year.
The announcement was made by the CM after the inauguration of Brahmashree Narayana Guru Jnana Mandira in Bantwal, which has been built at a cost of Rs 1 crore.
“I have lot of respect for Narayana Guru. He brought revolution in the society by creating religious harmony thereby bringing about social change. The meaning of the Jnana Mandira will be complete only when we walk on his path” he said adding that the debate of reservation arises only when there is caste inequality.
“When there is social, economic equality among people, we can wipe out caste system. Poor people from all the religions must be given all the facilities and the Congress party is committed to it,” said the CM.
Next month the caste census report will be out, he said.
Holding Narayana Guru responsible for the high literacy rate in Kerala, the CM said that if Buddha, Basavanna, Narayana Guru, Periyar, Ambedkar and Gandhiji had not fought against social evils, there would not be any change in the society.
CM lauded the contribution of Janardhana Poojary in making Dalit women as temple archaks in Kudroli.
“Janardhana Poojary has walked on the steps of Narayana Guru. Due to the efforts of Janardhan Poojary as Union minister, today people are availing banking facilties,” he said.
CM also announced that during the cabinet meeting it has been approved to give direct contract of worth Rs 50 lacs based on SC/ST population. The government has set aside Rs 19,450 crores to the Scheduled caste which is historic in the whole country, he said.
Former Union Minister B Janardhana Poojary presided over the programe. Ministers U T Khader, B Ramanath Rai, Abhaychandra Jain, Vinay Kumar Sorake and other Congress leaders were present.
