Bangalore:The discussions were held to distribute toor dal and 1 kilogram of sugar Rs 13.50 to BPL families from this month itself in the state, said food and civil supplies minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and sugar minister Prakash Hukkeri.
Addressing the media persons, both the ministers Diniesh and Prakash, said that a decision has been taken in the cabinet meeting chaired by law minister T B Jayachandra, in order to distribute sugar Rs 13.50 per kilogram, 1 kilogram of toor dal by reducing 5 kilograms of rice.
CM Siddaramaiah instructed to distribute corn to people of north Karnataka and maize to the people living in old Mysore localities Re 1 per kilogram. However, the exact stocks of maize and corn in state-godowns are yet to be available, said minister Dinesh.
The union government grants subsidy of Rs 18.50 per kilogram of sugar, which would enable the state government to distribute sugar Rs 13.50 per kilogram. It needs 1.10 metric tons of sugar in this regard, while the shortfall can be sourced from government factories. As there is no provision of levy, the sugar has to be sourced from open market, added minister Dinesh.
