Mangalore: Mangalore Police Commissioner Manish Kharbikar has informed that a special committee led by Kavitha BT ACP(Mangalore Central) has been formed to probe into case of alleged sexual harassment meted out to ASI Srikala by the Mangalore South ACP TR Jagannath.
Addressing press persons at the Commissionerate office on May 25, Saturday, Kharbikar said a nine member committee has been formed to redress cases of sexual harassment in the Mangalore Commissionerate limits in adherence to the Supreme Court ruling of 1997 with regard to harassment at work place.
Apart from Kavitha, the committee will have Circle Inspector K Kalavathi, Hilda Gaveas, Assistant Administrative Officer in Mangalore Police Commissioners Ofice, Pauline Mariappa of Crime Branch in Commissioners office, Dr Rameela Shekhar, Dean of Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work, Vinay Gaonkar, Circle Inspector of CSB, Ramachandra B Maladevara, Circle Inspector of Urva police station, Girish, Sub Inspector in CSB, Mangalore, and Nagini, sub-inspector of Ulla police station.
Kharbikar said as per the Supreme Court ruling, the committee has majority women members and one member who is not related to the police department. He said action would follow as per the report submitted by the Committee at the earliest date possible.
