Bangalore: Even as the newly formed Congress government is keen on initiating several welfare schemes including the One Re per kg of rice scheme, rumours are doing the rounds that the state treasury was almost empty as of now.
According to one source, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah may opt against presenting the Budget immediately and instead do so in July after mobilization of resources.
Highly placed sources have revealed that the Congress government was almost tied down for want of funds for developmental schemes as the erstwhile BJP government had restricted its last budget merely towards expenses instead of mobilizing resources.
It has been reliably learnt that during Thursdays cabinet meeting, CM Siddaramaiah has requested his cabinet colleagues not to announce any large scale projects but initiate developmental activities on a smaller scale.
There are also reports that the CM has already consulted financial experts on resource mobilization, release of funds for works and such other aspects.
With the state treasury almost empty it is now left to be seen how Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will manage the situation.
