Udupi: A habitual drunkard allegedly murdered his father in the wee hours of Thursday February 20, merely for a betel leaf.

The deceased is identified as 60-year-old Narayana Naik. The incident occurred at Bidkalkatte when the accused 26-year-old Narasimha brutally murdered his father with a sickle.
Speaking to Newskarnataka, PSI KR Naik told that Narasimha had arrived home late night at 3.00 am after drinking intensely. He woke his father and asked him for a betel leaf; fed up with his son’s behaviour Narayana began to scold Narasimha.
It is learnt that Narayana’s wife and Narasimha’s mother 42-year-old Sita was present during the fight and is the witness of the incident. He shouted and tried to alert the neighbours during the fight but as Narasimha’s behavior was known to the neighbours, they assumed it to be a regular fight.
Reportedly Narayana had earlier filed a complaint in Kota police station about the misconduct of his son due to his alcohol addiction.
Kota police have now registered a case of murder as per the complaint filed by Sita, the wife of the deceased.
