SKBWF protest demanding increased daily wages

Mangalore : The South Kanara Beedi Workers’ Federation sat on a protest outside the Labour Commissioner’s office as they alleged that the Beedi workers have not received the increased daily wages due to them since April 2014 from their employers. 

The President of  CITU, B. M. Bhat addressed the protesters. He explained the reason for the protest thus: The consumer price index rose by 705 points and the beedi worker was entitled to Rs: 150.88 for every 1000 bidis produced. But this has not been paid since the last two months. He demanded that the the increased wages be paid immediately with arrears.

If the minimum wages were not paid by 10.6. 2014 along with arrears, then the federation would organize protests in front of the beedi owners premises he added.

Workers Leader, Vasant Achari and Beedi Workers were present at the protest venue.
