Udupi : There has been a happy ending to the case of missing suitcase containing 25 sovereigns of gold reported from  near Mahalakshmi Temple at Kaup on April 7, Monday. A taxi driver from Mudarangadi who happened  to spot the suitcase on the road but could not immediately locate its owner, has now handed over the suitcase to  Haridas Bhat of Pangala who was escorting a family from Kerala in a Tata Sumo vehicle. The gold belonged to the Kerala family.

Speaking to NewsKarnataka, Haridas Bhat said “A taxi driver  from Mudarangady approached  me and handed over the suitcase containing jewels. The man said  he found the suitcase while he was on way back home  near the Temple. Though he wanted to return it to the owner, he could find them due to rush.”

“The driver said he couldn’t even return the suitcase the following day as he had another engagement  and  on April 9 approached  the owner on reading about the case in the newspaper,” Haridas Bhat said.

As already reported, a suitcase containing 25 sovereigns of Gold slipped off a moving Tata Sumo Vehicle and fell on the road in front of Goddess Mahalakshmi temple at Uchchila around 9 pm on April 7. The gold belonged to a family from Trissur in Kerala which had come to attend a Brahmopadesha ceremony at a relative’s house. They were being taken from the railway station to Padubidri by Haridas Bhat of Pangala when the suitcase slipped off the luggage carrier  near the temple and fell on the road.  Before the vehicle could stop and return to the spot, someone had taken it away.
